Intergenerational Ministry, Kids Ministry Programs, and Abiding with Jesus
Catching up on the last few weeks of podcasts
It is summertime here in the southern hemisphere, and I’ve recently returned from some post-Christmas/New Year’s leave. If you haven’t “liked and subscribed” to both The Shock Absorber and Cross Formed Kidmin podcasts, then here’s what you and I have missed out on during my time off work and blog posting.
Cross Formed Kidmin
Episodes 110-111 form a two-part exploration of intergenerational ministry. In part one, Hunter grills me on the theology and strategy of intergenerational ministry. In the follow-up, I talk about what this looks like at Soul Revival Church and what it could look like in your church, too. (Though these are not necessarily the same thing!)
If you’re looking for a good introduction to intergenerational ministry, this will at least give you the quick version of how I’ve come to understand and implement the topic.
Episode 112 sees me and Hunter discuss the super practical topic of “Intentionally structuring your kids’ ministry hour”. We both share what works well from our different churches and bond over our mutual deficiency of anything resembling arts and crafts. At its core, effective kids ministry centres the Bible, and helps children explore God’s message in creative and memorable ways. This episode will give you two examples of practice to consider in your own context.
The Shock Absorber
Joel McMaster and I sat down last week and recorded our first Shock Absorber episode since before Christmas.
We chatted about parenthood, making sense of God’s world through science and maths, the contrast between Cambridge’s word for the year (“parasocial”) my own (“abide”), and why God has the right to tell us how to live.
This episode will drop really soon, so make sure you subscribe on YouTube, Spotify, or wherever good podcasts are sold.
Chip Lunch
If you didn’t yet know, Joel McMaster also hosts a second podcast for Soul Revival Church called Chip Lunch. Here, Joel explores the stories of members of our church and hears how “Jesus changes everything” in their testimonies.
Recently, Joel had an extra special guest drop by for the 200th episode, the Anglican Archbishop of Sydney, Kanishka Raffel. You can hear his story from Buddhism to Christianity, from Bible College to local ministry in Perth, and finally to Archbishop of the Sydney Diocese in the link below.
